Who we are

In the summer of 2025, Alzate MATRO Suisse Design came to life in Savosa: the personal project of young designer Mario Alejandro Alzate, born from a clear vision and a courageous choice. Aiming to create a space where technique, creativity, and innovation could meet, he decided to dedicate his time and resources to the creation of an independent design laboratory. A space designed to house 3D printers, a post-processing area, resin printing, and an environment suitable for prototyping and the development of new objects. Not simply a laboratory, but the starting point of a journey of research, precision, and invention.

Born on December 28, 1997, in Tuluá, in the Cauca Valley of Colombia, Mario Alejandro Alzate showed a strong natural inclination toward drawing, construction, and the observation of forms from an early age. His creativity was expressed from an early age through a particular passion for cars, which he tirelessly drew and interpreted in his own unique way, creating small models with the materials he had available: wood, clay, and, later, toy components that he dismantled and reassembled according to a surprisingly technical and design-oriented approach.

In 2010, at the age of 12, his move to Ticino, Switzerland, marked a decisive cultural and personal transition in his life. After completing his compulsory education, he chose to pursue a career in civil engineering, driven by a desire to better understand technical drawing, materials, and construction methodologies. This training provided him with a concrete and disciplined foundation, introducing him to a vision of design based on precision, structure, and functionality.

He later dedicated part of his career to the Swiss Army, starting in Birmensdorf as a full-time infantryman. A knee injury prematurely ended this experience, but also ushered in a new phase of his career. He thus anticipated his entry to the SSSAA (Scuola Specializzata Superiore di Arti Applicate), where he chose to specialize in Technical Industrial Design. It was in this context that he consolidated his identity as a product designer, combining creative sensitivity, technical rigor, and design vision in a distinctive and multidisciplinary approach.

Mario Alejandro Alzate

Having completed his specialization course, Mario Alejandro Alzate chose to return to military service to fulfill his duty, embarking on the path that would lead him to become an infantry sergeant. An intense experience, lasting just over a year, instilled in him values that would profoundly impact his professional future: discipline, leadership, resilience, decision-making skills, and a sense of responsibility. These qualities, over time, would become an integral part of his approach to designing, building, and facing every new challenge.

Upon returning to civilian life, he joined the engineering firm Lucchini & Canepa SA, where he had the opportunity to further strengthen his connection with technical drawing and the world of civil engineering. In this context, he strengthened his method, honing his precision, executive rigor, and design sensibility. After a year and three months, the professional relationship ended. But what might have seemed like a setback turned out to be the decisive moment that pushed him to definitively transform a personal vision into a concrete reality.

That's when Mario decided to wait no longer. With courage, clarity, and an entrepreneurial spirit, he chose to fully invest his time, resources, and energy in building his own independent business. With the support of his family, he transformed some spaces in the family home into a design and prototyping laboratory, entirely conceived and built to give shape to his ideas. From managing the administrative procedures—including the application for change of use to be submitted to the Canton—to the design and construction of every single element of the laboratory, each step was approached with the same philosophy that had accompanied him since the beginning: imagine, design, and build with precision.

This is how a dream stopped being just an ambition and began to become reality. Within this laboratory, the first innovative products came to life, born spontaneously from imagination, daily observation, and the desire to create new, useful, and distinctive solutions. At the same time, the natural extension of his work as a designer and technical planner also developed. In 2026, this journey was officially confirmed with the registration of the business in the Commercial Register of the Canton of Ticino: a step that marked the concrete beginning of an independent reality founded on creativity, innovation, Swiss precision, and a genuine passion for design.
